Jim had been talking about his dream of becoming a professional baseball coach for years. Everyone around him said he couldn’t do it and he didn’t know what to do to pursue his dream.
His procrastination was paralyzing him.
He started consulting with Coach Kevin and using the “Magic of Action” tools almost every day for the next one-and-a-half years. When he hit a road block, he looked to his plan and took action. He kept driving forward.
Jim became a professional baseball coach in 1998.
Here’s what he had to say:
Dear Kevin,
“I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your help in getting this coaching job with the Texas Rangers, and this past year with my career. I’ll never forget our first meting discussing my goals and our plan of attack.
At the time I thought my goal of coaching professional baseball was a bit of a stretch, but you didn’t. You had faith in me as we outlined a plan and you stuck by me when I was discouraged, and you know as well as I do, that there were times when I had more doubts than confidence.
Our weekly meetings kept me on track and your excellent feedback and ideas propelled me toward my goals. You also held me accountable when I really wasn’t into it. I can’t thank you enough for sticking with me – your faith, discipline, and energy made it work. Urging me to speak with the top coaches and managers in baseball, doing the practice interviews, setting deadlines, helping me with cover letters, pushing me to do what I thought was not possible; this and more is what did it. Thanks again!
P.S. I was just looking over some notes and noticed last year I had written a goal of getting a job in pro ball by November 30, 1998. I received the job offer December 11, 1998. Teamwork!”
